For years, cannabis has been split into two main buckets: Indica and Sativa. So what do those labels actually mean, and do they still hold up?
Traditional Definitions
Indica: Usually tied to relaxed, mellow, body-heavy effects. The plants tend to be short and bushy with wide leaves.
Sativa: Usually tied to a more energetic, heady feel. The plants grow tall and lanky with narrow leaves.
The Modern Understanding
These days, most people who study cannabis will tell you the effect you get has more to do with a strain's cannabinoid and terpene makeup than the Indica or Sativa label on the jar. And honestly, almost everything on the shelf now is a hybrid anyway.
How to Choose
Instead of getting stuck on Indica vs Sativa, look at:
- THC and CBD percentages
- Terpene profiles
- Your own tolerance and experience
- What time of day you plan to use it
